Hotel Restaurant Rotes Einhorn

Warning! Room advertised as Double Superior *** is, in fact, in attic where double bed barely fit and if you wake at night you will easly bump head to the roof. I am also pretty sure this room does not fulfill basic German standards - three stars room shall be at least 18m2 and guests should have no need for helmets during the stay. My complaints at reception were politely rejected with statement that “managment will be informed”, but I also needed to pay full price like I am in the real hotel. I will be glad to pay another additional 85 EUR only to know what is exactly “Superior” in this room ;)

This rating is for the NEW rotes Einhorn Hotel, located at Monschauer Landstraße 152, 52355 Düren, German. Good price, excellent breakfast buffet. Rooms are clean, private shower. Hotel is one year old. A single room has a single bed for one person only. They have free wi-fi, which works well. They say they have a refrigerator in the room, but it does not keep things cold, nor does it make warm beverages cold. It took the staff 3 days to tell us that. We kept asking why our water was warm. If they told us up front, that would have been better. The hotel is not walking distance to any stores, restaurants or places of interest, you need a rental or someone to give you a ride. For dinner, the restaurant is 700 meters away - close, but dangerous walk along the road which has no shoulders. We were told many days later there was a path, but we could not find it. If I go back to Duren, I will look for other hotels closer to town and points of interest before I'd choose this place. Dinner at the restaurant was good, prices ok.

Not as good as all the pictures say. We arrived a week ago. We went to the new building but saw a note with "If you have eyes, you can see we are closed". That's for Germans a very rude message... So we headed back to the old building where all the people were sitting. I almost got attacked by a Border Collie who was barking very loud and seemed very agressive, have to admit; I was walking towards the dog and I wanted to pet him, just because I like dogs. Well, we got the keys eventually at the old building nearby. The new hotel was almost completely empty and the room was hotter than Death Valley. Room was clean and very nice though. Beds were not really good but fine. We decided to go eat somewhere in Düren but the city is absolutely nothing. We were completely done after dinner and decided to leave the next morning. Breakfast was fine, service to cancel our stay was good but this was not as nice as everybody says. This is not a 8,8/10 but if you are on a road trip this is a great one.
